As we work on forming our goals for 2022, reflecting on all we have achieved in 2021 has brought me a lot of joy. We created and launched a website, held the first ever Hamilton County Invasive Species Awareness Week, joined with hundreds of volunteers at over 10 Weed Wrangles, created and deployed a Strike Team , installed 7 boot brush stations, held an invasive trade in program, AND MORE! That's a heck of a lot in our first real year.  I'm even more excited about our momentum moving into the new year and the exciting ideas being discussed and initiatives taking shape.

 

If you get this newsletter each month and want to be part of the invasive species solutions developing in our county, I encourage you to jump in now!  We need more hands, hearts, and minds in our committee work. There is no required level of invasives expertise to have a positive impact on HIP and our community.  As you set your priorities for 2022, we hope HIP will be one. 7 boot brush stations installed in the county!

We're up to 7 installed boot brush stations across Hamilton County with many more to come!  See the map of boot brush locations on our website!

 

Native for Invasive Trade Program Update

11 mature callery pear trees, 118 callery pear trees (<6 feet tall), 9 wintercreeper vines, 5 mulberry trees, 3 acres of honeysuckle, 1 Norway maple and 6 burning bush were removed by Hamilton County landowners who received free 5 gallon native replacement trees in return.

 

Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation to host a live Christmas tree recycling event!

Central Park West Commons on Jan 2nd from 12-4 pm. Look for more info in media outlets soon or contact Lana Ramer with questions. 

 

Next HIP Meeting - January 5th at 12pm
HIP general meetings are held the first Wednesday of every other month at 12pm. Meetings will be in person but offer an online option as well. Register here.  Committee meetings are held monthly. These meetings and committee work is where the real action happens. Please sign up for the technical or education committee mailing lists when you register for the HIP general meeting.
